Crimetracker: Three county chase ends in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A chase through three counties, racing along city streets in a stolen truck leaves one man facing multiple charges. The chase ended near Western Avenue in Knoxville where police arrested Stephen Vandergriff of Kodak, Tenn.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the chase, involving a truck from Grainger Co., started in Jefferson Co., passed through Sevier Co., before ending in Knox Co.

Authorities from all three counties and THP troopers all joined in the chase before the troopers finally took the lead and deployed their spike strips.

As the chase headed from Asheville Highway onto Knoxville city streets with speeds reaching 80 miles an hour. With a blown tire, Vandergriff finally stopped at a dead end on Moses Street and Brandau Ave.

THP said that's when the suspect got out of the truck and ran across Western Ave. where he finally tackled in a parking lot.

Now, he faces a several charges, including Felony Evading Arrest, DUI, Theft of a Stolen Vehicle, Drug Charges, and a host of traffic violations.
