CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - A fire Thursday morning in Cumberland County left one woman struggling for life.

Fire Captain Daniel Coleman said the call came in before 10. They were told one woman was trapped, but she was safe by the time they arrived.

"We had two heroes: Residents of Cumberland County that had pulled the female out of the back window," said Coleman.

The woman's boyfriend, who called her Jennifer, said he tried to get to her but the flames were too intense.

"She was all burned up. I guess she was trying to put the fire out. It was just really bad," said Robert Davis.

The fire department said witnesses told them they saw three young kids pushed through the window before rescuers helped the woman inside.

"It made it a little more intense to make sure all my kid's was out. I have a kid at home and it's no more scarier than knowing you've got kids involved. It makes things work a little differently here," said Coleman.

The department said it doesn't know a cause, but Davis said Jennifer told him it started with their kerosene heater. The fire was out in less than an hour.

The Red Cross was on scene and plans to help the family get back on their feet.

The woman's identity hasn't been confirmed by Cumberland County Fire Department. Her condition at Vanderbilt is unknown.
