DENSO adding 130 jobs in Athens; investing in Maryville

ATHENS, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Scores of jobs are coming to Athens as DENSO plans to pour more than $50 million into its facility there.

Not to be left out, the automobile parts manufacturer plans on investing in its Maryville operation as well, though the company did not say how much that plant would receive or how many jobs could be added.

In all, DENSO said it plans to invest nearly a billion dollars in its North American operations and add more than 2,000 jobs.

The renovations in Athens, which will allow it to hire 130 more workers, will have it to localize gasoline direct injection and increase its production of monolithic carriers.

While in Maryville, the company will localize inverters, high output alternators, and the first heads up displays it plans to build in the U.S. It will also increase the production of stop/start starters, memory seat modules, and passive start entries.

The company indicated more than 1,200 jobs are coming to the U.S. alone and will be divided between Tennessee, North Carolina, Iowa, and Michigan.
