KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- The rain disguised emotions of the day. But emotions were evident at the Channon Christian Golf Tournament at Willow Creek Golf Course.
Hundreds gathered to honor her six years after she and boyfriend Chris Newsom were brutally raped and murdered.
"This is just an amazing day. You can just feel...the love in the air and everybody, we get such a good support from the community. We've got people coming from out of town, and it's just wonderful," Deena Christian said.
Even though the weather didn't cooperate with golfers, Channon's dad Gary Christian was grateful for the event.
"I see a lot of faces that grow up with her. I see a lot of faces she spent a lot of time at their houses," he said.
The money raised at the golf tournament goes into the Channon Gail Christian Foundation. Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to a Senior girl at the University of Tennessee who is from Farragut.
Channon's family told Local 8 News it's an opportunity to celebrate her life.
