KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The East Tennessee Children's Hospital has announced plans to expand.
The 245,000 square foot, five-story building will be located at the corner of White Avenue and 21st Street.
The $75 million project will provide a new surgery center, enhanced family areas, additional parking, and a 44-bed, private room Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
The hospital wants to make a hospital visit as easy as possible.
"It'll be really nice to just have one place to go, and that will take the pressure away, so that will be a wonderful thing," said Sabrina Copas, the mother of a former patient.
Groundbreaking is expected to begin August. The building will take approximately two years to complete.
The hospital plans to pay for the majority of the $75 million dollar project with internal funds. More than $9 million has been raised from private donors.
The hospital is looking for the community for help raising approximately $6 million more. You can click the link in this article to donate.
