KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)-- American Red Cross volunteers from East Tennessee will head to Colorado Wednesday to help the flood victims in Colorado.
At least five volunteers from the Tennessee Mountain Valley Chapter are responding. But more volunteers may be called in the coming days.
These volunteers have special training in disaster response.
The American Red Cross is supporting rescue operations by providing shelter, food, relief supplies and comfort to the nearly 12,000 people forced from their homes.
Hundreds of people have been staying in Red Cross shelters since heavy rain lead to flooding and landslides.
The American Red Cross has also distributed more than 10,000 meals and provided 1,700 health and mental services to those affected.
Those who want to make a donation to support Red Cross Disaster Relief can visit www.redcross.org, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or text the word REDCROSS to 90999.
