KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Erin Barnett here with a recipe for my grandma's apple pie. It is a recipe that's been in our family for more than 50 years.
What you'll need:
- peel and slice 8 apples
-2 teaspoons of butter sliced
-2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon
-2 teaspoons of ground nutmeg
-1.5 cups of sugar
Mix these ingredients together and cook until apples soften.
Here's what you'll need for the dough:
-2.5 cups of all purpose flour
-1/4 teaspoon of salt
-1/4 cup of cream
-1/2 cup of shortening.
Mix flour with shortening, then add salt and sugar. Slowly incorporate milk until mix becomes soft. Roll out dough.
Time to assemble pie! Put half of the dough on the bottom of the pan, then pour apples across the dough. Cut other half of dough into strips and layer across top of apples. Bake on 350 degrees for about 35 minutes.
