Events to celebrate 50 years of skiing

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - Ober Gatlinburg has several events to wind out January's celebration of 50 years of skiing in East Tennessee.

Here are the events that are planned by Ober Gatlinburg starting on Thursday:

Thursday, January 24, 2013
College Night ~ A current College ID from any college is required along with 6 canned goods or non-perishable items for a free 6pm-10pm Lift Ticket. Come out for a night of fun and recreation to support The Sevier County Food Ministries!

Friday, January 25, 2013
Free Flow Friday ~ Spend your Friday night throwing down in the park with your friends. We will have lights, music, chairs, and a chill atmosphere for you to come out and hang out in the park. This is a great opportunity to ride with the local talent as well as the OGFT crew. There will be prizes and swag, so come and spend your Friday night with us!
K2 'POP THIS!' High Ollie Contest – We welcome back K2 and their "Pop This!" highest ollie contest! This year we are stepping it up and giving away a brand new K2 SLAYBLADE snowboard! We also have some limited edition K2 skate decks to give away, as well as other prizes. For the skiers we will be playing a game of Snow Dice for some sweet prizes from Line Skis. The popping will start at 6 pm sharp so be sure to be here and ready to get your ollie on.

LADIES NIGHT – Ladies of all ages will receive a free 6pm-10pm Lift Ticket with 6 canned goods or non-perishable items. Come up and hit the slopes with some Gal Pals and support The Sevier County Food Ministries. OGFT will also have the Terrain Park closed off for female skiers/riders only from 6 - 8pm. Come ride with your fellow ladies without worrying about the dudes. Dakine will be on hand with some goodies for the ladies who come ski and ride in the park!

Monday & Tuesday, January 28 & 29, 2013
SPECIAL OLYMPICS TN WINTER GAMES – Over 150 athletes with intellectual disabilities will compete in Alpine Skiing & Snowboarding and Speed Skating in divisions based on age and ability. The traditional lighting of the Special Olympics flame will take place on Monday morning at 9:00 on top of Ober Gatlinburg. Award presentation will begin at 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
