Family loses everything in early morning house fire

WALLAND, Tenn. (WVLT) A Walland family of six came home to find their house in flames early Friday morning.

Fortunately, the Moore family was not home when the fire started so no one was hurt. Neighbors say they saw smoke coming from the attic around 5:00a.m. It only took a few minutes before it turned into flames throughout the house.

"You could see flames in both bedrooms, and coming out of the roof," Janie Whitehead said. Whitehead and her husband live across the street from the Moore family.

By the time Marty and Jodie Moore were able to get to their house, Blount County firefighters were already on the scene.

"I was standing there watching my house burn for two hours, and I just kept thinking, we're okay. It's just stuff," Jodie Moore said through tears.

The Moores own a farm a few miles from their house and spend much of their time there.

Three of the Moore's sons are between the ages of five and 13. Their fourth son is 24. All of their Christmas presents were under the tree and were lost in the fire.

"They dearly love being on a farm," Jodie said of them.

Jodie described her sons as "all boy" with hands-on type personalities. She said they love to play board games and build things.

Even though the family has a long way to go and is only just beginning to take their first steps after such a tragedy, they're thankful for what they have and that so many people have already stepped up to offer help and support.

"It really makes me feel good to know that the community really cares. When you have a tragedy, there's people there that are going to care," Jodie said.

If you'd like to help the Moore family, you can get in touch with them through their Facebook page by looking up Friendly Farm or call 865-982-7255.
