Knox County, Tenn. (WVLT) - "This is Channon's birthday, she would have been 27 today," said her parents, Gary and Deena Christian.
This is no celebration for the Christian family. Five years ago their daughter Channon and her boyfriend Chris Newsom were murdered.
"It's a hard day for us it makes it a lot easier with friends who have become family," said Denna Christian.
They started "The Shepherd's", a motorcycle club, in Channon's honor .
"This year we're riding as we do everyday in Channon's memory," said the Christian's.
More than 50 bikers came to take part.
"Every individual that's here either has kids that's grown or has kids that's in school or college and they all understand," said David Gardner.
"She had amazing friends they all loved her and she loved them she would do anything for anybody," said Deena Christian.
She's not here to blow out the candles or cut her birthday cake but her family members only have one wish.
"We wanna ask and encourage parents to seek some type of method to teach your children how to protect themselves," said Gary Christian.
Channon was tortured, raped, and left in a dumpster. Still, her family has no closure.
"Angry, dissatisfied ,we thought we had justice," said the Christians.
Four of those convicted for the crimes were tried and sentenced, only to get their cases thrown out. Now, all will be re-tried before a judge, again.
