OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (AP) -- A newspaper reports the federal government has told the managing consortium of the Y-12 nuclear weapons plant to justify its contract.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported the U.S. Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration issued a "show cause notice" on Aug. 10, ordering the contractor to explain why its contract should not be nullified.
That comes in the wake of a July 28 intrusion in which three protesters reached the Oak Ridge facility that contains weapons-grade enriched uranium. One of the intruders was an 82-year-old nun.
The Y-12 plant is managed by B&W Y-12 LLC. The partners are Babcock & Wilcox and Bechtel National.
The News Sentinel said it learned of the notice, which came as B&W changed personnel, including its three top officers
