Maryville streets back open after a Monday morning fire

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A fire shut down several Maryville streets as rush hour began Monday morning, authorities said. The streets have since been opened and traffic is flowing again. The blaze started in the closet of an office building around 5:00 a.m. Fire crews thought they had it contained only to see spark back up.

As of 8:40, crews were still putting out hotspots and extensive damage has been done to the building.

Emergency crews were forced to shut down multiple roads near the 300 block of Washington Street, so they could battle the flames. Officials said a firefighter fell through a roof, but was not injured.

No one was believed to be inside the building at the time of the fire. Authorities have not given a cause.
