PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Pigeon Forge Fire Department will donate some unused equipment to departments in need around the area.

According to Chief Tony Watson, the department has several unused air pack bottles that can be filled and used for several more years. He says instead of tossing the old bottles out, he thought it would be a good idea to recycle them to other departments who can't afford new ones.

Watson says those departments often help city firefighters during large events.

"They could help us, you know when we're in here in Sevier County, we always end up here together a lot on these big fires. So it's definitely going to help them because again we're all in it together up here," said Chief Tony Watson, Pigeon Forge Fire Department.

Watson says his department got a grant to replace old air pack bottles. The City of Pigeon Forge voted to donate the equipment to English Mountain Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Kingston Fire Department.

City commission approved the donation at Tuesday's meeting. The commission also voted to hire three new firefighters so serve the city.
