2 firefighters hurt after explosion during Townsend house fire

TOWNSEND, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in Townsend on Wednesday. Officials said the pair were hurt after an explosion caused them to step backwards and onto a weak spot in the floor, causing it to cave in.

Both firefighters fell through the hole, landing on top of each other. One of the firefighters was treated on the scene while the other one had to be taken to Blount Memorial Hospital. No further information on their conditions was released.

Firefighters responded to the home, 235 Boat Gunnel Road, around 7:30 a.m. after the homeowner's brother, who lives in a trailer around a hundred yards away, spotted the flames. He said the owner of the two-story home, Adrian Birdell Davis is out of town.

Authorities said the home was fully involved when firefighters arrived.
