KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The woman pulled from a Knox County home Friday morning has died. The Sheriff's Office identified her as 36 year-old Maria Pricilla Jovel Chicas. An autopsy showed she died of smoke inhalation.
The woman was pulled from the home on Hammer Rd. by an on-call firefighter. She was rushed to the hospital.
The firefighter, too, had to be treated at the scene after pulling the woman to safety. He's reportedly doing okay now, according to Fire Chief Jerry Harnish.
The firefighter was one of the first people to respond after the fire was called in around 8:30 a.m. The fire managed to spread through much of the house, 7215 Hammer Rd., causing heavy damage to the front of the home.
Firefighters have managed to get it under control.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
