First lady to participate in reading event

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- First lady Crissy Haslam is scheduled to be in Red Boiling Springs on Tuesday to participate in the school's Read Across America event.

Haslam is expected to be at Red Boiling Springs Elementary School, where she will join students in viewing their schoolwide book parade and read with them following the parade.

As first lady, Haslam is working to promote early literacy. Last summer, she launched the Read20 Family Book Club, challenging Tennessee families to read together for at least 20 minutes each day.

Read Across America is an initiative of the National Education Association.
