First responders talk about I-75 wreck scene in Campbell County

ROCKY TOP, Tenn. (WVLT) - Wednesday's fiery crash in Campbell County left us with images we will never forget.

And some first responders, it was the worst scene they ever worked.

The Rocky Top Fire Department sent a pumper truck and two firefighters to the wreck while the rest of the staff helped direct traffic in town.

Firefighters say they help put out the fire and also shuttled water to and from the scene in their truck since there are no fire trucks along the highway. They say they filled their 750 gallon truck up at least 10 times.

"Chaos -craziest call I've been on in awhile," Rocky Top firefighter Tyler Wade explained. "We had fireman everywhere and it was just chaos all together."

"They were filling up in Caryville at a hydrant. They'd fill back up and go dump it in a dump tank," added Chief Sam Bailey.

A Jacksboro firefighter and a Campbell County Rural Fire Services firefighter were injured at the scene.

The Jacksboro firefighter was sent to the hospital for smoke inhalation, while the Campbell County firefighter was cut while working on one of the tractor-trailers involved in the wreck.

They are both expected to recover.
