Vehicle thefts have been on the rise in Knox County for the past few years. It's a problem the Sheriff's Department is hoping to tackle, along with the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters.
It's called, "Operation Vehicle ID." Your VIN number is permanently etched into your vehicle's wind shield and windows. Officers say this can help deter a thief, because they know an etched vehicle can be traced quickly.
The service is free and take about 10 minutes. They'll be set up Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the front lot of Toyota of Knoxville. It's just off of Parkside Drive.
