Police still have no clues in east Knoxville murder

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - It's been one year since Ernie Reno was shot and killed just walking distance from his East Knoxville home.

"Ernie was just a sweet little boy. He was mentally and physically challenged. Wasn't a threat to anyone. Had a bit of an attitude. Drank a bit. Pushed his little 20 inch bicycle around and hung his groceries on the handlebars because he really didn't have a lot of strength," said neighbor Jim Golden.

Golden said he called 911 shortly after hearing gunshots. KPD arrived a few hours later after they received another call alerting them to a body.

"No one has any idea," said Golden as to why Ernie was shot.

Police interviewed several neighbors, but say there's little evidence. KPD posted a $10,000 reward earlier this year. The case remains open.
