Funeral for KPD officer killed in motorcycle wreck set for Friday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Dept. announced the funeral arrangements David Munson, their officer killed in a motorcycle wreck in Sevierville on Monday.

Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 1, at Chilhowee Hills Baptist Church, 4615 Asheville Hwy.

The procession, which will take him to his final resting place at Atchley's Seymour Memory Gardens, 122 Peacock Court, is expected to leave the church at 12:15 p.m. (see below for route)

A KPD spokesperson said members of the community are invited to show their support during the procession. He also cautions that traffic will be stopped to allow it to pass.

Knoxville Police Dept. employees who are unable to attend the service will honor him as the procession passes the Safety Building. The Knoxville Fire Dept. plans to be behind the building displaying the flag from their ladder trucks.

Munson was a patrol officer in the East District. He graduated the Academy in December 2011. He had been married for five years.

He was killed after he lost control of motorcycle on Douglas Dam Road (Hwy. 338), according to THP reports. His Yamaha went off the highway and struck a guardrail. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

South on Hill then across the South Knox Bridge to Moody
West on Moody to Chapman Hwy
