KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Another stretch of Gay Street is getting a makeover. On Tuesday, crews begin streetscaping along the road's 500 block. The project extends the beautification work done in the 300 and 600 blocks back in 2011.
Some of the improvements include: better landscaping, defining on-street parking, addressing stormwater issues, and improving the sidewalks. (See renderings) They expect the project will take around four months.
Teams from Merit Construction are expected to out between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and may have to shut down all but one lane at times. You will still be able to reach all of the businesses throughout construction.
