Governor denies parole to ex-Manson follower, Roane County High School grad

LOS ANGELES (AP/WVLT) -- California Governor Jerry Brown has denied parole for a former Charles Manson follower who has served more than 40 years in prison.

Friday, Brown told The Associated Press he has refused to approve the release of 70-year-old Bruce Davis, who a month earlier was found suitable for parole by a state board that left the final decision to the governor.

Davis, who graduated from Roane County High School, was sentenced to life in prison in 1972.

He was convicted with cult leader Manson and another man in the killings of a musician and a stuntman, but was not involved in the infamous Sharon Tate murders.
