SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Sevier County volunteer groups spent Wednesday trying to get more people to join their organization and help out the community.

The Sevier County Promise held the Annual Volunteer Drive at the Sevierville Community Center throughout the day.

Dozens of people filled out applications to help 27 different groups that showed up to recruit. Applicants will choose an agency and then leave information with the Promise group to do background checks.

Sevier County Civitan President, Billy Worsham, says volunteers help make a difference in the community. He says his group needs help all year long, but especially for a big event that helps kids with special needs adjust with going back to school.

"We're providing different activities throughout the day like a school setting," said Worsham. We need several volunteers to help us with the various project we have going on throughout the year."
