KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Many girls dream of having a fairy tale wedding when they grow up, but the cost of that fantasy wedding can be more than $26,000.
The dress, cake, flowers, food, location, photos and more can add up, but the wedding doesn't have to cost nearly as much.
In fact, a wedding with more than a hundred guests can cost less than $5,00
Melissa Croft did just that, and here's how she put it, "We recruited my husband's aunt to do the cake, my aunt to do the flowers because she has a florist shop in Dandrige, my mother did the alterations and the aisle runner and then I took it upon myself to do all the decorations."
She next only spent $600 on her dress, $250 on dresses for the bridesmaids and flower girl and $500 on tuxedos for the men from Men's Warehouse.
They got married at Parkwest Church of God and only spent $600 because they were already members of the church.
The reception was also held there, and they used iTunes instead of a DJ and for food they spent $750 on BBQ.
Croft explained what she did for photography, "The photographer was 1200 dollars I did a lot of research and I wasn't going to pay 3000 dollars but I didn't get the cheapest either I stayed in the middle."
Maria Graham of Dime Box Wedding and Photography offered this advice on having an affordable wedding, "My point is try to save brides and grooms money when they are on a really tight budget and show them that they can have a nice wedding for next to nothing."
Graham added, "Be realistic think about exactly what they want. Prioritize, cut corners on things that matter less to you."
In the end, Croft says it all worked out, "If I had to do it over again I wouldn't change anything at all. It was fun. It was great family time bonding time with family and friends, and it was very sentimental and it's a day that I will never forget."
