MOUNT LECONTE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A 55-year-old man was hiking in the Smoky Mountains near Alum Cave Trail when he took about a 10-foot fall. He then rolled about another 60 feet, according to Smoky Mountain National Park spokesperson Dana Soehm.
Officials received the call about 4 p.m. Saturday.
The man was first taken to a fire station by ambulance and then flown to UT Medical Center. He is in stable condition.
The location of the fall as well as icy conditions made it tough for crews to rescue the man. They managed to get him to the trail head by 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
