Weather Alert: Strong to severe storms are expected tonight

Harper pleads not guilty in hit-and-run deaths

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The man believed to have been behind the wheel of a hit-and-run that killed three on May 30th pleaded not guility in courty Monday morning.

Curtis Harper, 22, arrived in court Monday morning with his family and faces charges of vehicular homicide by intoxication and reckless endangerment, as well as DUI and tampering with evidence.

His next court date will be on July 13th.

Early on May 30th, Nelson Soto, Sr. was helping Chastity Thornell and another woman on the side of the road when the 2004 Ford Explorer registered to Harper's parents in Franklin, TN hit Soto and Thornell.

Both died on the scene, as well as Thornell's unborn child.

The families of the victims were also in court Monday morning.

Harper, a recent University of Tennessee graduate, was formally charged on June 13th, and posted bond that Friday.
