How high school freshman can prepare for college admissions

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) -- Even though it's not time for high school freshmen to start writing college applications or register for SATs and ACTs, there some things they can still do to get ready for applying to college.

As the number of people applying for college increases, so do the number of qualifications. Colleges are now taking a holistic approach to application process and are looking for well rounded students. It's more than just test scores and grade point average.

Admissions officers want to see if a student spends time in the community and stays involved in extracurricular activities.

"Preparing yourself in high school sets you up to be successful in college. Both academically and learning skills like time management and things like that helps you succeed in college," said Kari Alldredge, a University of Tennessee admissions officer.
