KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT)- An infant was taken to the hospital after being ejected from a van Sunday afternoon.

Rural Metro confirms the wreck happened just before 3:30 on Bull Run Valley Road, in the Heiskell community of North Knox County.

The Knox County Sheriff's Office says the mother, 31-year-old Mandie Stanley was trying to feed the four-month-old child while driving. The child was in a car seat but not buckled in. She then dropped the baby's bottle. When she tried to get it, Stanley lost control of the van and crashed into a tree.

The baby then was thrown out of an open window or door, which was opened on impact.

The baby's seven year old brother was able to carry him to safety.

Stanley was cited for failing to use a child restraint and driving on a suspended license.

Both the baby and mother were taken to the hospital.
