Injured dog rescued by school students finally adopted

NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. (WVLT) -- TNT anxiously waited to meet her new owner Friday. Shy at first, she started warming up to Cameron Caldwell right away.

"She deserves a good home, she's been through a lot," said Caldwell.

Five months ago, a group of Tazewell-New Tazewell Primary students found TNT on their playground in a lot of pain with a broken elbow. They raised money to help pay for surgery, but a veterinarian at Animal Emergency Specialty Center offered to fix her leg for free.

"So she went to Knoxville and got all sorts of pins put in her leg and she had to stay in a crate for 8 weeks. She couldn't leave the crate for any reason," said Liza Martz, Executive Director of the Claiborne Animal Shelter.

She's been healthy since July, but still, no one adopted her. Then Caldwell's dad stopped by the shelter to help him pick out a dog. He'd heard TNT's story, but:

"I didn't know it was her, but as soon as I met her, I knew that had to be the dog she was so special,' said Bobby Caldwell.

Caldwell couldn't wait to take her home and give her the life she deserves.

"She'll have a good life - plenty of food, a nice yard, a good family," he said.

There's plenty of other animals available for adoption at the shelter. You can also foster them. Click the link below for more information.
