KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) --- This might be the last story you ever read.
The author thanks you for picking this particular story by the way.
The Mayan calendar's 5,000 year long cycle will end at 6:11 on Friday morning marking the Winter Solstice and, according to many, the end of the world.
Now NASA and Professors across the country say the Mayan's never predicted the end of the world, just the beginning of a new cycle.
But hey, you can never be to safe.
So let's party.
Bars and restaurants across the region are opening up their doors to anyone who wants to party like its 1999! (remember '99, the whole Y2K craze? That was a New Years to remember).
This year, December 21st, bars are hoping to get the same crowds.
Spicy's in Powell, The Well in Knoxville, and Surin of Thailand all throwing parties to celebrate.
Of course the calendar ends at 6:11am. But hey if the Mayans are wrong, we know where we can pop the champagne.
