Jackson Ave. reopens after McClung Warehouses fire

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - West Jackson Avenue between Gay and Henley streets has reopened for the first time since a February 1 fire destroyed the McClung Warehouses.

Jackson Avenue also is open to pedestrians. City crews in coming weeks will be making improvements to the south sidewalk, which sustained some damage during the operations after the fire.

The City will be redeveloping all of the properties it owns on Jackson Avenue, acquired in November 2013 in a settlement with a bankruptcy trustee.

Following a public input process, the City is hopeful that a developer or developers may be able to assume ownership of the properties by the end of the year.
