JEFFERSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - The former child support magistrate who made international headlines for a ruling last year is now running for office.
Lu Ann Ballew is running for Sessions Court Judge in Jefferson County.
Ballew came under fire last August for ordering a Cocke County couple to change their child's name from 'Messiah.' Ballew explained the change by saying that `Messiah' is a title that is held only by Jesus Christ.
She was later removed from the bench and received a public censure from the Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct.
Ballew is challenging four others in the Republican primary.
