Judge who presided over 'Messiah' case now off the bench

COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT) - An East Tennessee magistrate who ordered a baby's name be changed from Messiah to Martin is no longer on the bench.

Lou Ann Ballew is no longer listed as a child support magistrate.

Ballew told the mother that Messiah is a title only reserved for Jesus Christ.

A complaint led to formal charges by the board of conduct earlier this month.

A hearing has been set for March 3.
