KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tycorrian Taylor was charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated assault in the case. Jurors found him guilty on the assault charge, but not guilty of attempted first degree murder. Instead, they convicted him of a lesser offense: attempted voluntary manslaughter.
Police said Taylor attacked Ron Gandy while Gandy was trying to tow the car Taylor was driving at Pleasant Trace Apartments last September. Gandy suffered brain injuries and is now in a wheel char.
Gandy said even though jurors acquitted Taylor on the attempted first degree murder charge, Taylor still faces three to six years in prison, so he's satisfied with the verdict.
"He didn't walk away scott free. He got three to six years. That's three to six years less that I have to worry about him. And I can pick up my pieces of my life and go forward," said Gandy.
Taylor's family had no comment, but his attorney said he's happy that he jury understood Taylor's intention was not to kill Gandy and that the beating happened in the heat of the moment.
Taylor is scheduled for sentencing November 7.
