KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The 12th annual KARM Dragon Boat Festival at The Cove at Concord Park had to end a few hours early because of inclement weather Saturday afternoon, but there was still plenty of time to have fun beforehand.
Forty-eight teams of 20 paddlers and a lead drummer raised money to compete in the races.
As Angie Sledge says, it took more than strength to win, "The group that operates in true teamwork is going to be the group with the best time and win the race. It's not necessarily the boat full of body builders."
The money raised by the teams helps the Knox Area Rescue Ministries continue to provide food, shelter, and other programs to the homeless in our community.
The organization had a goal of $250,000.
