KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knox County Sheriff's Office says a hit and run suspect is in the hospital this morning after crashing his motorcycle on East Emory Road.
KCSO says Oak Ridge notified them to be on alert for a hit-and-run suspect identified as 43-year-old James F. Mitchell of Oak Ridge.
A KCSO officer spotted Mitchell driving eastbound on West Emory Road around 7:42 a.m. The officer pulled behind him and attempted to pull the suspect over.
Mitchell sped up, took a curve too fast and ran off the road into a ditch at 9638 East Emory Road. He was thrown from the bike. He is now at UT Medical Center being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Mitchell was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Multiple charges are pending against him.
KCSO says Mitchell has a criminal history in Knox County that includes reckless driving, driving without a license, and schedule II drugs.
Knox County Sheriff's deputies are at the scene of a serious accident on West Emory Rd and Mountain Vista Rd. Authorities say a motorcycle was involved, and Lifestar is on it's way to the scene.
