KCSO takes steps to keep you safe this holiday season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Knox County Sheriff's Office announced it's second annual Safer Holidays Task Force this week to prevent theft this season.

The task force is a joint effort with retail locations to knock down loss and prosecute those who steal.

The department will saturate retail locations with increased patrols.

"We don't want to make people so paranoid that they can't go into a shopping center. It's just that we want people to think about how crimes occur," said deputy Robert Hubbs.

In addition, the department released a list of holiday safe shopping tips including parking in well lit areas, remembering where you parked, hiding valuable before you get to the shopping center, avoid wearing expensive jewelry, keeping cash in a front pocket, and using a credit card or check instead of cash.
