KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- The Knoxville Police Dept. has identified the woman killed when the minivan she was driving smashed into the side of a north Knoxville business early Saturday morning. Thirty-three year-old Charanissa Humphrey was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
According to their preliminary investigation, she was heading east on Western Ave. in a 1996 Dodge Caravan shortly before 4:00 a.m. when she went off the road for an unknown reason. The minivan then crashed into the Quality Preowned Appliances, 2507 Western Avenue.
Humphrey was not wearing a seat belt and had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the wreck and have ordered a blood sample taken for analysis.
