KARNS, Tenn. (WVLT) - Giving out presents to families in need is tradition for firefighters in east Tennessee.
The Karns Fire Department gave bags full of toys to 139 kids this year.
The presents were donated by schools and community members to help the less fortunate. The department says Karns is a close-knit community, and helping each other out is important.
"It means a tremendous amount. I just had a lady come in and bring in her slip to pick up her bag. And she told us about some recent health issues and how she didn't get put on the Toys for Tots list in time, and she was crying. And she was able to get on our list and pick up the bags of toys for her children," said Kelley Grabill, the organizer.
Kids were also given hats, gloves and stuffed animals when parents picked up their presents.
