KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A Knoxville police officer has been cleared of criminal misconduct in a shooting that wounded a man at West Town Mall.

Officer Christopher Edmonds was cleared after the district attorney general's office review of the Nov. 1 incident.

Investigators said Edmonds confronted Abraham Dudley in a parking lot during a domestic dispute between Dudley and his girlfriend. When Dudley said he had a weapon and was going to use it, Edmonds shot him. Dudley was taken to a hospital and later released.

Prosecutor Randy Nichols sent the department a letter Friday, saying Edmonds committed no crime.

Police Chief David Rausch did not immediately return Edmonds to duty, continuing his paid leave while a department investigation continues.
