Knox Co. considering solar panel project

Knoxville (WVLT) The benefits of solar panels could provide too many opportunities for Knox County officials to pass up.

That's why Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett, Knox County Schools Superintendent Jim McIntyre and several county commissioners announced their plans Monday to pursue a solar panel project for Knox County schools and buildings.

McIntyre said not only would solar panels provide clean, efficient energy, the technology would be a perfect lesson for students. One of the biggest benefits could be the energy savings, which officials say could reach $5 million.

Both the Knox County Board of Education and the Knox County Commission will take up the proposed solar panel project in December.
