KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A Knox County daycare worker has been arrested following an indictment by a grand jury on charges of child abuse.

Twenty-three year old Tina Atchley of Mount Olive Road was arrested Friday afternoon after the indictment.

The Knox County Sheriff's office says she was charged with child abuse stemming from an incident on June 6 at Cozy Kids Day Care on Maryville Pike.

According to detectives from the Knox County Sheriff's Office Family Crisis Unit, Atchley is accused of slapping an 8 month old boy off a counter onto the floor where he landed on his head.

The boy was treated at Children's Hospital for multiple head injuries.

A mom picking up her child said this incident was atypical of anything she had ever seen or experienced at the day care.

"This is completely uncharacteristic of anything that's ever happened before. In my experience, the teachers are extra gentle and extra loving," Brooke Givens said.

Atchley is being held in the Knox County Jail on a $30,000 bond. She was immediately fired from the day care.
