Weather Alert: Showers & Storms This Weekend

A Local 8 Weather Alert has been issued for today. Because of the threat of rain, thunder and even hail, outdoor activities may be disrupted or inconvenienced. What's going on? An upper-level low will be moving across East Tennessee today, creating a more unstable atmosphere.

Knox County students collecting for kids disrupted by Sandy

KNOX COUNTY, Tenn (WVLT) -- Student clubs at Byington-Solway are reaching out to a non-profit group in Lower Manhattan, New York City.

These are items needed at this time:

  • Gloves
  • T-shirts
  • Winter Hats
  • Coloring Books
  • Blankets
  • School Supplies
  • Socks, all sizes  

Graffiti Community Ministries is a non-profit group in NYC that serves 100’s of children in after-school tutoring, community service, gardening efforts, theater, music and the arts.

Hurricane Sandy left water and mud in classrooms, homes, and community centers leaving many homeless and hurting.

Byington-Solway is partnering with the ministries program to get supplies and clothing needed for kids to start over.

Donate your loose change and/or items listed at designated tables in the Cafe' between November 12th- 16th!
