Knoxville Catholic names girls basketball coach

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knoxville Catholic High School (KCHS) has named Alex Bowers as head basketball coach for the Lady Irish. The hire will be announced today during a team meeting scheduled immediately after school dismissal.

Coach Bowers joins KCHS from Maryville College, where he was an assistant coach for the men’s team. He was involved in many areas of coaching with Maryville, including: strength and conditioning, recruiting, game preparation and review, and individual instruction. Bowers also boasts a successful playing career – the Scots went 67-18 during his tenure and collected three NCAA Tournament appearances, three GSAC regular season titles, and pair of league tournament crowns. His senior year, he was named team MVP and All-Great South performer.

“I am excited to be joining the Knoxville Catholic community and becoming a member of the school’s faculty and staff,” Bowers says. “I feel like my experience in competing in the highest levels academically and athletically will allow for a smooth transition to Catholic High – a place where both are emphasized greatly.”
