Knoxville Roller Skating Coffee Club

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.(WVLT) -- You won't hear hip hop music coming from Skatetown on Tuesday mornings at 10. It's all nostalgia along with coffee and sweets.

Welcome to the Knoxville Roller Skating Coffee Club.
Founder Irene Ballard, 88, pulls out the the welcome mat every week.

"I taught half of Knoxville to roller skate and the other half to decorate cakes."

It's also where she found her future husband years ago.
"He sat on the side and said, I want that one out there, that he got!"

Irene began as a show skater and still has some fancy moves at 88 years old.

"Sounds conceited to say everybody, just about, I love people and I love living and i love doing things that are happy, it makes you happy and it makes me happy", Irene told Local 8's Alan Williams.

Driving in your neighborhood, I'm the Tennessee Traveler.
