Knoxville man pleads guilty to 2012 Smokies attack

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - A Knoxville man has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and sexual assault after a June 2012 incident in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

William E. Seevers, 48, appeared in U.S. District Court Monday and pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder and one count of aggravated sexual abuse by force.

Sentencing has been set for August 21, 2014.

A federal grand jury returned an indictment against Seevers in December 2013 alleging that in June 2012 Seevers attempted to kill a woman in the Smokies by stabbing her in the neck with a knife.

Seevers also forced the woman to perform sexual acts and stabbed and punched her as she tried to get away.
