LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - A section of South Broadway between West Main and Vine Street was shut down Saturday night after a woman was killed in an accident.
Officials say 27-year old Lauren Roady of Washington, D.C., who is originally from Knoxville, TN, was killed after being hit by a vehicle at the intersection of South Broadway and West Main Street at 10 p.m.
Officials are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident but say a fire truck was involved.
Roady's death is being investigated as accidental, according to the autopsy report.
According to the Fayette County Coroner, Roady died of multiple blunt force trauma.
Roady's friends tell us she was in Lexington over the weekend for a run with the Georgetown Running Company out of Washington, D.C.
Police said their main goal was crowd control while investigating since it is a busy night downtown.
We received a quote from Mayor Jim Gray stating, "Police are conducting a full investigation, as they do in all traffic fatalities. We anticipate we will have the results around the first of the year. Today, I want to reach out to her family to express our sympathy for their loss. You are in our prayers. If my office can be of assistance, please let us know."
