LOCAL 8 WEATHER ALERT: Freezing temperatures will develop later tonight, causing damage to flowers and plants that are left exposed to the cold. Be sure to bring in your potted plants before you go to bed, as lows drop into the lower to mid 20s...about 25 degrees for Knoxville and Oak Ridge. Look for 1 to 3" of snow for the Smokies by morning.
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - It's that time of year again. The Knoxville Zoo's inviting everyone for Penguin Discount Days. Now through February 28th, admission to the zoo is half-off.
The zoo says many of its animals enjoy crisp temps and are more active on cooler days. The zoo’s favorite indoor exhibit, Wee Play Zoo, is a cozy place to stop and play if you do happen to get a little chilly.
When the temps drop below 40 degrees, zoo keepers will move some animals to indoor enclosures, but even on the coldest days of the year visitors can still see elephants, gorillas, penguins, reptiles, chimpanzees and bears in their indoor viewing areas.
Half-price admission tickets can be purchased at the zoo ticket office during regular zoo hours and online at www.knoxvillezoo.org. Discounted admission tickets must be used by Feb. 28, 2013, and cannot be combined with any other promotion, discount, or coupon.
The zoo is open every day except Christmas Day. Hours run from 10:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Admission and ticket sales stop
one-hour before the zoo closes. Next-day admission is free after 3 p.m.
