KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee State is replacing Tennessee Tech on Tennessee's 2013-14 women's basketball schedule.
Tennessee released a schedule last month that included a Nov. 21 home game with Tennessee Tech, but Tennessee officials issued a release Monday saying Tennessee Tech had informed them a conflict would prevent the Golden Eagles from playing on that date. The Lady Vols announced Monday they had dropped the Tennessee Tech game from their schedule and added a Dec. 17 date with Tennessee State at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Tennessee Tech athletic director Mark Wilson issued a statement saying that the school "never agreed nor was contracted to play Tennessee in women's basketball in the 2013-14 season." Tennessee athletic department spokesman Eric Trainer said Tennessee had been under the impression that the two schools had agreed to play in 2013-14 until Tennessee Tech officials informed the school they already had scheduled another game for that date.
A tip-off time for the Dec. 17 game with Tennessee State will be announced later.
