SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Stats tell us one in six women will be raped or face attempted rape at some time during their lives. That's why the Sevierville Police Department is hosting a Rape Aggression Defense class for women Tuesday night.
It's a nine hour class that will be held at the Sevierville Civic Center in the City of Sevierville Municipal Complex. The class is free of charge and is open to all interested women.
The purpose of the class is to develop and enhance self-defense options, hands on techniques a woman can use if she's attacked.
The class will be taught by SPD Officer Rebecca Cowan and Lt. David Finchum, both nationally certified R.A.D. instructors.
Each participant will receive a workbook/reference manual, which outlines the entire program for future reference and continuous personal growth.
Classes begin Tuesday at 6 p.m. They'll continue the following two Tuesdays, June 25th and July 2 from six to nine.
